Why we built it
Australian Shopify merchants have been stuck with a frustrating choice for years: pay international SMS apps US-dollar prices and watch your messages get routed offshore, or piece something together with Zapier and hope it doesn't break on a Sunday afternoon.
Neither felt right. So we built a proper Shopify app — one that's purpose-built for the Australian market, sends through direct carrier connections, and uses the same straightforward pricing as the rest of Mobile Message.
What it costs
The app itself is free. You pay nothing to install it, nothing monthly, and there's no markup on the SMS you send.
Messages are charged through your Mobile Message account at standard rates — 1.6¢ per SMS on your first purchase. No subscription, no lock-in, no surprises.
For context: a store sending 1,000 abandoned cart recovery SMS a month pays $16. The same volume on most international SMS apps would cost you 5–10x that, before you've even thought about monthly platform fees.
What you can do with it
Recover abandoned carts. When a customer starts checkout but doesn't finish, the app sends them an SMS after a delay you choose, with a link straight back to their cart and an optional discount code. Cart recovery is consistently one of the highest-ROI uses of SMS in ecommerce.
Send order confirmations, shipping, and cancellation SMS automatically. The moment Shopify fires the event, your customer gets the message — from your business name, with a tracking link if it's a shipping update.
Run SMS campaigns to your Shopify customers. Every customer tag in Shopify automatically becomes a contact list in Mobile Message. Tag a customer "vip" or "wholesale" and they're instantly part of a list you can send a campaign to. Sales, product launches, back-in-stock alerts — all from your existing customer base.
Send from your own brand. Use your business name as the sender ID (up to 11 characters), a dedicated Australian number, or a shared pool. Customers see who the message is from, not a random number.
The Australian bit matters
Every SMS sent through the app is delivered directly to the major Australian carriers — Telstra, Optus, and TPG/Vodafone. No offshore routing, no grey routes, no mystery middlemen taking a cut and adding latency. That's why deliverability is reliable and message speeds are fast.
Compliance is handled too: every marketing SMS automatically includes an opt-out instruction, and opt-outs are honoured across your entire Mobile Message account — so a customer who unsubscribes from your store's SMS won't accidentally get one again from a campaign you send next month.
